Bill, As we've discussed, though not in a long, relaxed, face-to-face, shared six-pack atmosphere yet, cartooning has in many ways helped define our directions as draftsmen and artists in general. I think these works are going well for you, perhaps even ready for what you probably already planned... four, five or six foot canvases that take advantage of their screaming colors and croppings. I'm still a bit disappointed that "Shunpiker" didn't attract more attention than it did. It was a fine grouping of serious art and artists. Your previous work is haunting me back to painting, which I hope to live long enough to approach again. Unsold sculpture has a way of nudging one back to flat works. Your new images also tempt me, in their delicately juxtaposed and carefully redrawn characters. Good to see that non-cartoon line art objects are working their way in to broaden the "vocabulary". Take care and good luck with the work! --Robin
Thanks a million Rob, your words are very encouraging. I'm expanding them even as we speak, loosening up the brushwork etc etc, filling in the holes. Shunpiker was a fine show man, you did well. Its effects perhaps lay somewhere down the line, like many things.
Hey I'll stop by VA some time and we can share that six-pack, my friend. Thanks much for your feedback. Please stay in touch, and I'll do the same.
